Rainmeter: Make your PC Desktop Looks like Windows Phone 7

Previously, I have written a few posts about windows Phone 7. If you haven’t had a clue about what Windows Phone 7, you can click here to find out about it. Basically, Windows Phone 7 is the latest OS from Microsoft for mobile devices. At first glance, I feel that the UI of the phone looks cool and fantastic. The applications in the phone are represented by tiles which are both neat and user friendly. Now, there is a way to get this UI into your PC by using the software called Rainmeter.

As can be seen in the screenshot below, the desktop looks exactly the same as the UI in the actual phone. The tiles that you can see aren’t just there for decorative purposes but instead they are fully functional tiles.

Some applications available are  clock, calendar, recycle bin icon, alarm, CPU monitoring function, firefox shortcut, piano, weather forecast, notes, etc. You can also customize your screen by choosing the color of the tiles and background. You can also place these tiles in any kind of arrangement that you want.

Here’s how you can set up this function in your PC:

  1. You need to go to get Rainmeter software downloaded and installed by going to this website (click here).
  2. After installation, you need to download and install the theme for the software. The theme used to get this UI is called Omnimo II. You can download it by clicking here.
  3. Once installed, you can use the application right away.

To customize the UI, you need to click on the “+” icon located on the desktop screen. Choose the tiles you fancy and place them in your desktop.

Basically, if you are looking for desktop enhancement software, this is the one you should get. Best of all, it is free of charge. Go on and try it.
