Monitor Off Utility: Turn Off Your Laptop’s Monitor to Save Energy

The laptop monitor is perhaps one of the bigger energy drainer of your battery. A lot of energy will be wasted if your laptop monitor is on while you are not using it. Some laptops do have hotkeys to turn off the monitor while some do not have such functionality. The only way to turn off the display is to set timer for turning off the display in the power plan setting.

Monitor Off Utility is a freeware that will enable you to turn off your laptop display anytime just by one click or a hit of the hotkey. After installation, the software will sits on your system tray.

There are two methods to turn off your monitor display which are:

  1. Right-click on the Monitor Off Utility icon in your system tray and click on “Turn Off Monitor(s)” option.

  1. Use the hotkey which is by default is (Ctrl + Alt + L) but need to be setup first.

After you have activated the function, your monitor will count down for 10 seconds before turning off. If you think that the delay is too long, you can shorten it through the configuration window.

Besides turning off the monitor display, you can also set up hotkey to start or activate screensaver. If your laptop does not have a dedicated button(s) to turn off your display, then this is the software that you will need. It is compatible with Windows 98, 2000, Xp, Vista and 7.
