The Apple iPad has finally reached the Malaysian shore as the gadget was officially launched in the country on 30th of November 2010. Although that is about 7 months removed from the device’s debut in the United States on April this year, there is still quite a lot of hype for the device in Malaysia judging from the fact that hundreds of people were queuing up for hours to buy the iPad on the launch date at the Mid Valley.
I believe that there are many hardcore Apple fans in Malaysia that would buy the iPad as they are genuinely interested with the device but on top of that, the pricing of the iPad might also be one of the main reasons for this craze on iPad in Malaysia.
Here is the official price list for iPad as quoted from the Malaysian Apple Store
iPad with Wi-Fi
16GB RM1549
32GB RM1849
64GB RM2149
iPad with WiFi + 3G
16GB RM1999
32GB RM2299
64GB RM2599
And now let’s compare with the price list of iPad in Singapore as given by the Apple Store
iPad with Wi-Fi
16GB S$728.00 (or RM1747)
32GB S$878.00 (or RM2107)
64GB S$1,028.00 (or RM2467)

32GB S$1,078.00 (or RM 2587)

From the price list given above, it is clear that the iPads in Malaysia is much cheaper (about RM200 to RM300 difference) than the iPads sold in Singapore. Probably Singaporeans should consider buying iPads from Malaysia instead.

I don’t think I will need an iPad. My notebook is good enough to do all the things that an iPad can do.
