On the surface, freeware and shareware seems to be the same thing. Many people don’t know the difference between both. Here’s how they differ:
Freeware: Freeware as the name suggested is a program or application that is available for free. However, although the program is free, it may still be protected by copyright law. The provider doesn’t charge a fee for the software but he/she might ask for a donation.
Shareware: Shareware is in many ways similar to freeware, except that it is a marketing tool for the software company. Here’s how it is used: Shareware is available for free to users for a certain period of time intended for them to try out the product. After the trial period ended, users are then prompted to purchase the software. This means the shareware provider distributes the software in hopes of making sales.
Note: when you download either freeware or shareware, always make sure that it is coming from a reputable source so as to protect your computer from hackers.
