Mozilla to release new Firefox every Six weeks

Mozilla released the new version of Firefox – Firefox 6.0 few days ago. Do remember that Firefox 4 was released in late March and Firefox 5 in late June. Now it’s Firefox 6. New versions are coming out quite fast. How Mozilla did it? The answer is here – Mozilla Release Channels.

Basically, there are four major channels : Firefox Nightly, Firefox Aurora, Firefox Beta and Firefox itself. Each channels has their own responsibilities.

Under Mozilla rapid release process, it is expected that a new version of Firefox will be released every six weeks with new features, performance improvements and security upgrades.

Look at Firefox Rapid Release Timeline. After six weeks of early stage in Firefox Nightly channel, the development process continues in Firefox Aurora channel for another six weeks. At the same time, the next version development works will start in Firefox Nightly. The idea was the development process will go on and on. That’s how new version of Firefox was able to be released every six weeks. Awesome isn’t it?

So now, Firefox 7 already in beta state. You can expect the new Firefox 7 stable version in October.
