With the release of the iOS 5, you can install the app in your iPhone or iPad for free. This app allows you to easily locate your friends from the apple devices mentioned.
The app, FindMyFriends, can be installed from the Apple App Store. After you have installed the app, you just need to sign in using the Apple ID you use with iCloud and add your friends in the app. When you want to locate your friends, just send them the request to see their location. Once your friends have accepted your request, you can then see their locations on a list or on a map.
