As a university student, I often have to search for online materials like articles, documents, reports and journals in doing my assignments and research. In doing so, the first venue for me to dig for information is none other than the school library’s website. There is a whole wealth of e-resources in it as the school is generous enough to subscribe to many reputable publishers. But that does not guarantee that I will find what I am looking for. Therefore, the next venue to check on is Google. Being the most widely used search engine in the world, Google holds a lot of online information as well.
The material that I am seeking for are mostly in the form of PDF format. However searching PDF files using Google Search can be a time consuming process as it returns you with all sort of information in many kind of formats. To filter out these formats, you will have to adopt a simple technique which is to include a “filety:pdf” keyword into the search box.
For example and this is only an example, if you would like to search for a book by Steve R. Covey called the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, just type in the name and include the “filetype:pdf” keyword.
The search will only return you with results that are in pdf format.
Click on whichever result that is relevant to your search and you will get the file. You can also search for results with different formats like doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, etc. Just replace the pdf with the format you are looking for.
Happy trying!!
